Overhauling a 1,000-Horsepower Synchronous Motor by Louis Allis
Challenge:
Louis Allis, a renowned provider of motor repair and maintenance services, faced the challenge of overhauling a 1,000 horsepower 514 RPM synchronous motor used in a vertical pump application at a water plant situated along the Texas coast. The primary challenge was to efficiently orchestrate the removal, repair, and reinstallation of the motor while ensuring minimal downtime for the water plant.
Solution:
Louis Allis collaborated with Landon Wilson to engineer a custom 3,000 horsepower, 507 RPM AC induction motor, replacing outdated Allis Chalmers models. This new motor, designed for seamless integration, featured terminal boxes on each side, offering flexible installation options across various applications within the power plant. During emergencies, Louis Allis provided expedited services, swiftly rewinding motors and preparing Babbitt bearings to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operations. This innovative solution effectively addressed the client's challenges, establishing Louis Allis as a reliable partner for specialized motor needs in industrial settings.
